Topolino
Fiat decided to make accessible cars and got it right with this model, with its attractive lines and a ‘universal appeal’ that remains to this day in its latest models. A resounding success, not only in Italy but also abroad. It reaches a top speed of 85 km/h with an average fuel consumption of 6 l/100 km.
Its small size is, curiously, contrary to the weight it carries at Fiat, as it saved the brand from bankruptcy on two occasions. The name Topolino comes from how the Italians of the time christened it because of its design and small size of 3.2 metres long and 1.28 metres wide. It means ‘little mouse’ and was the nickname by which Mickey Mouse was also known in Italy. This Fiat 500 has a robust chassis, fork suspension on the front axle and semi-elliptic leaf springs for the rear wheels.
Younger visitors will quickly recognise it, as this model is one of the main characters in the film Cars 2, Uncle Topolino.
