This model, presented by Lagerfeld in 2008, shows how visionary Coco Chanel was when she created the ‘Cruise’ or ‘Resort’ collections in 1919.
The French designer was the first to detect, or motivate, the high society’s need for a specific wardrobe for winter travel to warmer destinations, without having to resort to summer garments. Although today its use has been democratised, the idea was originally conceived as an exclusive response to the demands of the elite.

This dress was cited by Harpers Bazaar in an article that listed the 30 archive Chanel looks that would triumph at the MET GALA 2023, entitled ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.
Margot Robbie wore the same dress in a photo shoot for the August 2019 issue of the Russian edition of Glamour magazine.

At Coco Chanel, everything was adapted to the new era that women had to live in, so much so that in 1920 she imposed trousers and short hair, inspired by the spirit of the women who took part in the war. In 1921, Coco created what would become the world’s best-selling perfume, Chanel No. 5.
In 1922, just as she had done with hair and trousers, this time she gave birth to the tanning fad. In addition, in 1955, she launched the 2.55 bag, a shoulder bag that departed from the classic handbag design and left the hands free.
