Runabout, the dandy
One of the first sports models that only a lucky few could afford. It became fashionable among the so-called ‘Don Juans’ of the time. It cost $750, a fortune for the time.
Production of the Model 20 began in March 1909, and just over 1,600 cars were produced that year. Demand for this model was so high that the company moved to a larger facility later that year.
Between 1909 and 1912, a total of 14,500 Model 20 Hupmobiles were produced. To help demonstrate the reliability and safety of the Model 20, a 4-passenger passenger car made a trip around the world on 10 November 1910. It travelled through 26 different countries, 14 of which had never seen an automobile before – a true revolution.
