The night’s king
This Bentley looks like a departure from the brand’s principles, but it’s not: the 1950s was one of the most creative decades of the 20th century. With its gold paintwork and panther-skin upholstery, it took London’s nights by storm, causing a sensation around Piccadilly Circus.
It was the first all-steel bodied Bentley to be fully assembled and finished in its factory. These cars, although very expensive, were a real success. They included some striking technical innovations. It had a control in the centre of the steering wheel to adjust the stiffness of the rear shock absorbers, its windscreen had a defrosting and defogging unit, and there was an electric heater under the front passenger seat.
