The first DB2 prototype appeared at Le Mans in 1949 and sales began a year later at the New York Motor Show. David Brown, chairman of Aston Martin, was convinced that it would be a great success and set the company on the road to a great future. His predictions were borne out and the car deserved it.
The DB2 is the first DB car in Aston Martin’s history. It is named after David Brown, the owner of the marque since 1947, when he saw a classified advert for the sale of ‘a high class motor business’.
There is also the Aston Martin DB1, but it was renamed after the fact, as it was originally called the 2 Litre-Sports.
411 units were released, and against all odds, only 49 customers opted for the Drophead Coupé version.
