El Pampero
Original prototype made by Barron Ackroyd, a Royal Air Force pilot. He was killed during a dogfight against the ‘flying circus’, the Red Baron’s unit. He called it ‘El Pampero’ because Argentina was very fashionable at the time.
‘El Pampero’ is a ‘cyclecar’, a type of motorised automobile that is small, light and more economical than the cars of the time. They were manufactured in Europe and the United States between 1910 and the early 1920s, and were very popular because they combined the comforts of motorbikes and cars. They usually carried one or two passengers, the latter usually one behind the other.
