Due to declining sales, Henry J. Kaiser hired designer Howard ‘Dutch’ Darrin to produce an innovative new model to relaunch the marque and save the company. It was a car with a design that was too modern for the chrome era.
It was a very attractive car for motor enthusiasts. It was very light, weighed only 988 kg, had a 2,600 cc engine and 90 hp, and even in the middle of production they switched to V8 engines. In addition, its opening side door made it extremely eye-catching. But that wasn’t enough to compete with the 1953 C1 Corvette and the 1955 Ford Thunderbird, which was a complete failure. Only 435 units were sold.
Despite these figures, the stunning aesthetics of this car are undeniable. The producers of the Fallout series must have thought so, as they included it in their first episode, making this model the talk of the town.
