Life is a journey
This boot, made by Oshkosh Trunk Co, follows the latest fashion for boots, which offered the security and space to transport delicate items without damage. However, the original idea belongs to Louis Vuitton, who since 1854 developed other innovations such as flat lids, waterproof canvas or the tumbler lock.
The new wardrobe boots or ‘travel wardrobes’ offered the space and security to transport delicate items without damaging them, and it was not necessary to unpack the suitcase, as the journeys could be very long. Being a ‘must have’, this type of boot was quickly adopted by all brands, like the one we can see here.

Among the various travel labels affixed to the boot is one that remains in particularly good condition. It reads ‘Cie Gle Transatlantique’, an abbreviation of ‘Compagnie Générale Transatlantique’, a French shipping company founded in 1861 and dedicated to the transport of goods and passengers. In this case the voyage covered the Paris-Le Havre river route.

Oshkosh Trunk Co. is an American company founded in 1898, originally specialising in the manufacture of high quality boots and accessories for vehicles. Based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the company was noted for its innovation and attention to detail, creating sturdy and functional boots for travellers and adventurers of the time.
