Velvet damask
Almost 100 years later, Miuccia Prada, showing her originality and historical appreciation, revisits this inspiration in her Autumn-Winter 2009 collection. With sartorial silhouettes and coarse fabrics in neutral tones, this collection brings back utilitarianism in a collection that, in Miuccia’s words, ‘was about a need for female empowerment’.
Though more sartorial in structure, this coat reinforces the fact that fashion continually feeds on itself.

Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of the US edition of Vogue magazine, wore this same coat to the presentation of Theyskens’ Theory’s Fall 2011 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. In addition to this event, Anna has been seen wearing the same coat at a multitude of other social events and moments in her everyday life.

Miuccia Prada, born in Milan in 1949, is the creative mind behind the Prada brand, which she joined in 1978, transforming it from a family business into a global benchmark in luxury fashion. With a background in political science and a penchant for contemporary art, her intellectual and avant-garde approach redefined minimalism with a subversive twist.
Miuccia explores the tension between the ugly and the beautiful, challenging aesthetic conventions with collections that mix unexpected materials and bold silhouettes. Her innovative vision cemented Prada as a symbol of modern sophistication, where fashion is a means to question and provoke.
