Opulence and Art Deco
Although at the beginning of the decade there was still mourning after the war, over time, the population indulged in a life of frivolity that they felt they deserved and which reached sufficient proportions to mark the decade. “Les Années Folles”, “The years of the abbreviation”, “The golden twenties”, “La falle époque”.
This design shows a simple, drop-waisted silhouette, being the perfect canvas for Art Deco, jazz, charleston, relief, youth, speed and, finally, overflow.
The ‘leaves’ that make up this dress are one of the most representative forms of Art Deco, and very similar ones can be found decorating the lift doors of the Chrysler Building in New York, one of the greatest examples of Art Deco architecture.
Art Deco was an artistic and design movement that emerged in the 1920s, characterised by its focus on geometry, symmetry, luxurious materials and stylised elegance. In fashion, it influenced straight silhouettes, clean-lined dresses, sophisticated embroidery and the use of shiny fabrics such as satin and silk, reflecting modernity and opulence. In the automotive industry, it inspired streamlined designs with sleek bodywork, chrome grilles and geometric detailing. Its impact is still visible in contemporary design, fusing luxury and functionality.
